County Employee Drug Testing Policy Under Review

COMANCHE - The Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, June 22, with Judge James Arthur conducting the meeting and Commissioners Jimmy Dale Johnson, Kenneth Feist, Corky Underwood and Sherman Sides participating.

Concern was expressed both in prayer and among the Court and others present for former Commissioner Garry Steele, who recently has suffered heart problems. …

Community Rehab Wraps Up Busy Week

WORK CONTINUING AFTER REHAB.

Antonio Frausto was busy painting the picket fence in front of his newly remodeled home at 233 N. Bowie. The home received a new roof and exterior repainting during Community Rehab.

Community Rehab Project 2009 was held during the week of June 14 – 19.

More than 310 local and not-so-local volunteers ranging in age from 13 to 80, completed renovations including painting, roofing, siding, and windows on 24 homes during the week.

Another 150 plus volunteers worked in food preparation, delivery, and other needed positions.

Volunteers came from Comanche County and Texas locations as far away as Baytown, Canton, Mineral Wells, Midland, Bedford, and Plains, with a group from Cullman, Alabama joining in this year. One group included several young people who were originally from the Sudan. …

Flying Over Dirt at Arenacross in DeLeon

FLYING HIGH

The smell of burnt fuel, the sound of angry bees, the “oohs” and “aahs” of the crowd. Mud flying, intense action, as athletes straddling two-wheeled motors scramble to be in front when the checkered flag is waved.

This was the scene at the new DeLeon Arena grounds Saturday night at the 3rd Day Production’s first annual Arenacross in the first week of action. The second night will be this Saturday, with competition beginning around 7:00 p.m. …
