Undercover Operation Results in Three Arrests

The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office started an investigation in August 2008 of illegal use and sale of narcotics in the DeLeon area. The investigation continued for the next 10 months with the arrest of three suspects on June 3, 2009.

WEDNESDAY DRUG BUST

DPS narcotics investigators and troopers, Sheriff’s deputies and DeLeon police took part in the drug raid.

Comanche County Sheriff’s Narcotics unit had made a purchase of methamphetamine in the past from the N. Travis St. residence. Comanche County Sheriff’s Office along with DPS Narcotics had made a deal with the occupants of the residence to sell a large quanity of methamphetamine. On June 3, the occupants of the residence said the methamphetamine would be brought in and it could be picked up.

Comanche County Sheriff’s office, DPS Narcotics, DPS Troopers and DeLeon Police Department secured the residence and served a search warrant.

Six children ranging from age 7 years to 15 years of age were in the home along with five adults.

A total of 88.5 grams of methamphetamine was seized during the search. Officer’s said this was a
large quanity of methamphetamine for a small community such as DeLeon. The street value is estimated
at $ 18,000.00.

The search and undercover operation resulted in the arrest of two DeLeon women and a Gorman man. All three are being held in the Comanche County Jail. …

County Road Bridges Get Good Inspection Report

COMANCHE -- The Commissioners Court of Comanche County met in regular session on Monday, June 8, in the County Courtroom.

The first order of business was the presentation of the annual inspection of bridges on county roads by Cathy Griffin, of the Texas Department of Transportation. Griffin described the report she handed out to the Commissioners as the regular safety inspection of county road bridges (referred to in TxDOT nomenclature as “off system bridges”) completed every 24 months. Griffin noted that there were a few signs that were down and others incorrectly posted, incorrectly worded or missing altogether. …

Relay for Life Celebrates Survivors

SURVIVOR. State Representative Sid Miller, pictured above, spoke about his battle with cancer during the Comanche County Relay for Life last Friday.

They have looked the monster in the eye. And yet they have survived.

They didn’t volunteer to face the monster. They were not selected as the biggest, bravest or strongest. It just happened to be them. Why them? They cannot answer that. Would they choose to face the monster
again? Never.

But now they stand, and walk, to show all of us that you can face the
monster, and then enjoy a satisfying life.

“There are times in our lives we will always remember,” Texas House Representative Sid Miller, and a DeLeon native, told the group of survivors and walkers at the Relay for Life in Comanche last Friday night.
