HARD
AT WORK. The DeLeon City Council is seen from the street
last Thursday evening, February 26, busy in discussion during a
regular meeting. Seen from the left are Gayle Stroud-Place 5,
Billie Lightfoot-Place 3, Pauline Villarreal-Place 2, Police
Chief Ralph Dickey, City Secretary Karen Wilkerson, Mayor Danny
Owen and Public Works Administrator Rob Duncan. Seated with
backs to camera are Emergency Services Coordinator Ray Helberg
and Municipal Judge Wayne Parsons. Council seat Place 4 is
currently vacant and Lee Childers-Place 1 was absent. Billie
Lightfoot has filed for the Place 3 election (mistakenly
reported in the newspaper as Place 4 last week), and Bobby
Schuman has filed for the vacant Place 4 race. As of Tuesday,
Gayle Stroud has not filed for re-election nor have any other
candidates filed. The filing deadline for the May 9 local
election is Monday, March 9. |

Schuman Candidate for Place
4
|
|

I have lived in DeLeon all my life. I
have paid city and county taxes for over 50 years.
I would like to help the City of
DeLeon continue to be progressive any way I can.
I served as Comanche County
Commissioner for 10 years and believe that experience with
budgets and responsible decisions will be a help to me in city
government.
Thank you and I ask your support for
City Council Place 4.

Morris Seeks Re-Election to
Hospital Board
|
|

I am Janna Morris and I have lived in
DeLeon for most of my life. I am running for a second term on
the Comanche County Medical Center’s Board. I believed in the
potential of our hospital to become the healthcare provider it
should be. I am proud and excited to see the turnaround the
hospital has made in the last two years. We have only begun to
see what CCMC can really be.
My hope and purpose was to see
Comanche County Medical Center not only survive, but become a
hospital with the best patient care in the area, good doctors,
dedicated employees and have equipment that is usually found
only in large hospitals. We are well on our way to meeting the
goals set in our area for our hospital to provide for the
medical needs of people in our area. The need for change will
continue to be if we grow and provide our area with the hospital
it was meant to be.
I wanted my 19 years of experience as
a hospital employee to be used to benefit our district while
serving on the board. The last two years have given me the
opportunity to use that knowledge in decision making and I am
grateful to have been a part of that. As we move forward if you
have issues or concerns please let me or someone know about them
so they can be addressed in a timely manner.
If elected I will continue to use
knowledge gained from serving on the board and working in
healthcare to do my best to help in any way possible and make
CCMC become the hospital it was intended to be.
I am asking for your vote on May 9th. |
Hospital Earning Good
Profits,
Cash Flow Slowed by Computer
System Conversion
By JERRY MORGAN, Reporter

VAN DYKE -- The troubles associated
with translating hospital services provided into cash flow was
one of the more basic problems discussed at last week's
Directors meeting. The good news was that much improved future
cash flows can be expected because profits continue to be
recorded.

SPRUCING UP THE OLD TRAVELERS HOTEL. Workers were busy last
week on scaffolding high up on the sides of the DeLeon Housing
Authority’s apartment building. Damage from nesting pigeons is
being repaired and measures are being taken to prevent future
damage, as well as resurfacing the entire exterior. The project
is expected to take around three weeks to complete. Resident
Jack Robinson can be seen sitting out on the sidewalk enjoying
the sunshine. |
