VAN DYKE -- In a meeting that took place
for the most part in executive session, hospital directors voted in
open session, without discussion, to authorize assumption of $6.5
million in debt for a major purchase of hospital diagnostic and
other equipment and software.
The Board of Directors of the Comanche
County Consolidated Hospital District, the governing body of the
Comanche County Medical Center and Doctors Medical Clinic, met in
regular session at noon on Tuesday, March 25.
The meeting was chaired by president Gale
Easley, with all members present including Joe Locke, Karen Petty,
Charles Mazurek, Janna Morris and Billy Ray Evans.
The first order of business on the agenda
involved a drawing for ballot position in the race between Gale
Easley and Larry Damron. Damron was in the room meeting Easley and
others on the Board before the meeting began, however he left before
the drawing. Easley drew the first ballot position. >>Full Story<< |

Although several items were tabled
pending further review during the most recent DeLeon City Council
meeting, each item generated considerable discussion, making for a
somewhat lengthy meeting.
All council members -- Howard Gifford,
Norma Locke, Avery Carlisle, Roy Dale Freeman, Gayle Stroud and
Mayor Danny Owen -- were present for the March 27, 6 p.m. meeting.
Also present were Police Chief Ralph Dickey, Sgt. Dustin Paulsen,
Emergency Management Coordinator Ray Helberg, Public Works
Administrator Rob Duncan, and City Secretary Karen Wilkerson.
One of the more interesting items of the
night came further down the agenda when Mayor Owen and Chief Dickey
informed the council that the most recent K-9, Hannah, was “put
down” recently after suffering for sometime with the effects of lead
poisoning. >>Full Story<< |

Proctor Lake water has never been found
to have a bacterial contamination problem and is generally tested on

FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE. John Rudloff was hit by a tractor
trailer as he drove his pickup onto Highway 6 from his home in
the Rucker area between DeLeon and Gorman early last Thursday
afternoon, March 27. The truck struck his pickup just behind the
cab in an impact that tore a wheel off each vehicle. Rudloff was
hospitalized at CCMC and eventually set for surgery on a broken
pelvis. Above we see First Responder Doyle Rone assisting
Rudloff. |

COULD
HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. Lovington, New Mexico, truck driver
Gary Norton was headed westbound on Highway 6 about five miles
west of DeLeon when his big rig struck a pickup driven by John
Rudloff as it entered onto the roadway. Norton’s tractor lost a
front steering tire and was fortunate to have avoided a jacknife
and under the heavy load of oilfield pipe, not visible in the
photo. Rudloff’s pickup and a CCMC ambulance are visible in the
background. |
