I am running for a second term as Mayor
for the City of DeLeon. Time has gone so fast this past two years
serving as Mayor.
It's been a great pleasure serving with
our council members and I believe we have made some improvements for
the city and our citizens during this term. One of our accomplishments
is meeting the grant project obligation with the Parks and Wildlife
Department this year. Although we aren't completely finished with the
total project we have satisfied the grant and the Park is ours. Over
the past two years this project has been on the council agenda every
meeting and our council has met the demands and hardships head-on and
we now have something that our community can enjoy day after day very
soon.
We have made improvements to many streets
with the seal-coat from the 1/4% sale tax money, and we voted to place
this money in a special account at the bank so all money from the tax
will be utilized for street improvements for the future.
I regret having to close the swimming
pool this past summer due to old out-dated equipment and other safety
reasons, but our children must be protected from chemicals and
dangerous areas involving the city pool for now. Our city is lacking
activities for the young people to keep themselves entertained during
summer breaks from school. Grants are available, but the City is
unable to match our part of the grant process with funds at the
present time.
Another large project the city will be
required to undertake will be the wastewater plant in the near future,
this will require several million dollars to complete this project and
we must start planning now to be ready to meet the needs of our
business owners, our citizens, schools and churches. As your Mayor, I
stand ready to continue to work for the betterment of our city and I
know our council members feel the very same way of helping every civic
group and organization to attract business and visitors to DeLeon each
year.
I once again pledge myself to the
citizens, that I will continue to serve our citizens to the best of my
ability and hold the highest regards to the history and future of the
city of DeLeon. I would request your vote as Mayor this May.
Thank You
