All campuses of the DeLeon schools were closed Thursday, February 7, and Friday, February 8, due to high absenteeism from illness.

“We were averaging 12 to 15 percent in absences for the past two or three weeks, with students out sick,” said Dr. Mohundro, DISD superintendent. “We just couldn’t seem to shake it, and then it started effecting the teaching staff . I am running for a second term as Mayor for the City of DeLeon. Time has gone so fast this past two years serving as Mayor.

It's been a great pleasure serving with our council members and I believe we have made some improvements for the city and our citizens during this term. One of our accomplishments is meeting the grant project obligation with the Parks and Wildlife Department this year. Although we aren't completely finished with the total project we have satisfied the grant and the Park is ours. Over the past two years this project has been on the council agenda every meeting and our council has met the demands and hardships head-on and we now have something that our community can enjoy day after day very soon.  >>Full Story<<

A benefit account has been established at both First National Bank and Farmers and Merchants for the family of Paige Sanders.

Paige, 15, died Sunday, February 10, from injuries sustained in a 4-wheeler accident.

Comanche County Judge James Arthur signed an order Monday, February 11, prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated area of the county for 90 days unless the restrictions are terminated earlier.

Individual outdoor cooking in enclosed barbecue pits and welding is allowed on the condition that they are attended, with a spotter at all times, and a fire supression method is available. Violation of this order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

DANCING FOR A GOOD CAUSE. Steve and Marilyn Harbour took a moment to share a laugh with a smaller dancer last Saturday at the benefit fundraiser for Dora Rangel. Rangel, a City of DeLeon employee, was hospitalized after a sudden illness in December of last year, and although home, has been unable to return to work.
