COMANCHE -- The Comanche County Livestock Show was held at the County Livestock Barn on Saturday, January 12, and Monday, January 14.

There were a total of 188 FFA and 4-H junior exhibitors participating from throughout the county, along with their adult teachers, advisors, parents and members of the Comanche County Livestock Association. There were around 60 exhibitors from DeLeon FFA and 4-H.

A total of 451 animals were exhibited. Around 100 of those animals were shown by DeLeon exhibitors.
Breeding stock, market steers and horses were shown and judged on Saturday, with the remainder of market animals -- swine, sheep and goats -- shown on Monday.

DeLeon exhibitors earned two grand championships, four showmanship belt buckles, and a good number of reserve grands, breed, reserve breed and class champions.

The crowds of onlookers were large, the weather was generally cool and dry, and dust from the unpaved road and from within the show barn was a problem for some.

The premium sale was held at the show barn on Tuesday evening, well after the newspaper’s publication deadline.

The complete show results are in the print edition of the paper—and through our Internet subscription service.

Rogers, who is running as a Republican, is also a minister, farmer and musician. He served as president of the Sipe Springs Community Center for four years.

"If elected, I will try to do everything in my power to do what is right for Comanche County and Precinct 1," Rogers says.

He added, "I have lived here all my life. I am a honest man and a hard worker. I also run dozers, do dirt work, along with mechanic work. And don’t forget, most of all, I’m a farmer in your community."

CEMETERY VANDALISM. Police Chief Ralph Dickey was busy photographing overturned monuments at the DeLeon Cemetery Monday afternoon after receiving reports of vandalism there. All together, more than 30 monuments and markers were tipped over and/or broken by an unknown person or persons. The damage was discovered earlier Monday but there was no way of knowing specifically when the vandalism occurred. Riggs Cemetery Service did work in the cemetery on January 6, and noticed nothing unusual then. Chief Dickey reports that they have no suspects at this time. Mayor Danny Owen asks that if anyone witnessed any suspicious activity at the cemetery recently, or sees anyone in the cemetery after dark, to please call 911 to report it.
