The first day for a candidate to announce
their intention to run for local office in 2008 was December 3, 2007.
Individuals interested in running for local office have until January
2, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. to file an application for a place on the March
4, 2008 Primary Ballot.
Perspective candidates are encouraged to
contact their party’s County Chair. Democratic candidates should
contact Era Schwartz at 325-356-2448. Applications may also be mailed
1360 CR 404. The filing fee is to accompany the application.
Republican hopefuls may contact Bonnie
Maynard at 254-259-2347. The mailing address is 1681 CR 125, Sidney,
TX. 76474.
Candidate packets which include the
application for a place on the ballot are available at the office of
the County Clerk. Applications are required to be filed with the
County Chairs and they accept the filing fees.
Several candidates filed their
applications on the first day. Among those filing are Craig Willingham
(D) for County Attorney, Jeff Lambert (D) incumbent, for Sheriff, Mark
McDonald (D) incumbent, Constable, Gay Green (D) incumbent, Tax
Assessor Collector, Mike Carlin (D), County Commissioner Precinct #3,
and Edwin “Dock” Green (D) County Commissioner Precinct #1.
Local positions on the ballot in March
are; County Attorney, Sheriff, Tax Assessor/ Collector, Constable,
Commissioner Precinct #1 and #3.
On the state level, the offices of State
Representative (District 59) Sid Miller (R), and Senator (District 24)
Troy Fraser (R), are up for reelection.
Charles Williams, County Attorney and
Garry Steele, Commissioner Precinct #1 have announced their intent to
not seek reelection.
