COMANCHE -- Voting on the board members of the Comanche Central Appraisal District, banning the sale of aerial fireworks for the Christmas and New Year holiday season, accounting for FEMA and Certificate of Obligation revenues and approving a draft Floodplain Permitting process were some of the more notable matters that were considered and acted upon in Commissioners Court on Monday.

Judge James Arthur presided at the December 10 regular meeting with Commissioners Garry Steele, Kenneth Feist, Bobby Schuman and Jimmy Dale Johnson attending. Other county officials present and participating included County Clerk Ruby Lesley, County Auditor Joey Boswell, County Sheriff Jeff Lambert, County Treasurer Billy Ruth Rust, Chief Deputy Chris Pounds and County Emergency Services Coordinator Ray Helberg and his assistant Trish Grimshaw.  >>Full Story<<


E.D. Dock Green has filed for the Precinct 1 Commissioner post in the Democratic primary.

Green has lived in Comanche County most of his life. He is a 1977 graduate of Comanche High School and a 1987 graduate of Tarleton State University majoring in mechanized agriculture. He is married with four children and three grandchildren. He lives in Sipe Springs and is active in the community, including the Volunteer Fire Department.

Green states, “I have been mostly self-employed, engaged in welding, construction, heavy equipment operation, trucking, farming and ranching. I intend to to the best job for my precinct possible with the assets available, and to make the best decisions possible with the information available. I would appreciate your support, but please vote.”


Comanche County Tax Assessor-Collector Gay H. Green is seeking re-election in the Democratic Primary election.

Mrs. Green has been employed in the Comanche County tax office since 1970 and has served for six terms as Tax Assessor-Collector since 1981.

Mrs. Green, a Gustine area resident, states, “I enjoy this job and enjoy serving the public. I would appreciate your support on March 4 in the primary election.”

The Middle Trinity Water Conservation District board of directors met in regular session, Thursday, December 6, at the Dublin City Council chambers with members Fred Parker, Jerry Fronterhouse, George Bingham, Jerry Hinshaw and Ed Dittfurth present. Vice Chairman Bingham presided in Chairman Rodney Stephens’ absence. Also present were MTGCD general manager Joe Cooper, administrative assistant Sharon Mainord, and field technician Wes Burris.   >>Full Story<<


The first day for a candidate to announce their intention to run for local office in 2008 was December 3, 2007. Individuals interested in running for local office have until January 2, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. to file an application for a place on the March 4, 2008 Primary Ballot.

VISIT WITH SANTA. Little Makaria-Grace Litke, 3, was one of the first (of many) children to sit on Santa’s lap during the Country Christmas celebration at City Hall last Friday night. Makaria-Grace is the daughter of Geoff and Karee Litke of DeLeon.

EXTENSION OUTREACH LUNCHEON. The Comanche County branch of the Texas Cooperative Extension Service held its annual Outreach Luncheon at the Comanche Community Center on Monday, December 10. A wide cross section of county officials, business, agricultural and governmental leaders were invited and present. County Agent Whit Weems, in the center of the photo, is seen introducing Jay Bragg, with the Brazos River Authority, seen standing on the right. Bragg gave a brief overview of the TMDL & watershed protection plan for the Leon River segment between Proctor Lake and Lake Belton. He will be heading an effort by affected landowners and area officials and citizens to develop a plan that will bring that segment of the river in compliance with EPA clean water standards. Whit Weems is also involved in that effort as it involves Comanche County. Weems also announced that his office will be conducting small grains trials in the county in the coming year and continues working with the predator control program.
