Betty Terrill, Peach and Melon Festival Committee secretary, announced this week that the P&M office has moved directly across the street from its former location next to the Chamber of Commerce office downtown.

NEW OFFICES. Betty Terrill, right, and Ashley Davis at the new Peach and Melon Festival office at 132 S. Texas St.

“Our new address is 132 S. Texas St.,” Terrill said. “We’re in the same building that houses Dansby Real Estate and Comanche County Water Supply Corporation. The phone number will remain the same -- 893-6600.”

Terrill also announced that the 2007 Festival will not be held at the new location -- it’s not ready -- and that all activities will take place at the old grounds. The dates for the Festival are August 7-8-9-10 and 11.

This year’s Festival Committee Chairman is Warren Mitcham, with Bobby Winkles as assistant chairman and Treasure Mailloux as treasurer.

Other committee members include Carissa Barrett, Bobby Campbell, Cathy Campbell, Ruby Carlisle, Avery Carlisle, Johnny DeLatorre, Junior Gerth, Jaye Golden, Richard Gonzales, Dotty Hare, Ted Hodges, Rhonda Howard, Matthew Iley, Jackson Jobe, Heath Matteson, Bubba McCurry, Walter McCurry, Dovie Withers and Nick Hyden.

Although Terrill said that the calendar of events is still a work in progress, she noted that the “Spanish Dance” will be a featured event again this year.

UNFORTUNATELY, NOT TRUE. This sign, placed last year by eager and optimistic City employees at the site of the new Festival Park, is unfortunately misleading. Due to delays, a lot of them due to rain, the 2007 Festival will be held on the old grounds.

“They’re re-instating the Spanish dance, again,” she said, “on Friday night. And Tuesday night would be a good family night. The Festival Committee will not charge anyone the usual fee of $2 to get into the grounds. This is a night to go to the carnival and view the booths and catch a hamburger.”

Terrill noted that “Queen tickets” are already being sold. Queen contestants are: Courtney Caraway, Mercedes Chupp, GeorgeAnne Landreth, Kimberly Arnold, Kendra Howard, Latisha Abbey, Candace Houston and R-Leigh McLearen.

“And anyone who has a child that wants to enter the Little Miss contest needs to call us here and give us their name and address so we can mail them the information,” Terrill said. “Those little girls need to be entering the DeLeon Elementary School in the fall, and be at least five years old.”
