When asked on Tuesday about recent law enforcement activity, DeLeon Police Chief Ralph Dickey responded that the department's calls and activity have been slow in recent days. He added, "I hate to say it, but actually it has been pretty nice."

The main computer server at the Police Department failed recently, and has caused considerable difficulty in their paperwork processing, as well as work toward recovery of lost records. Chief Dickey indicated that most of the critical records had recently been backed up shortly before the computer failure and that the damage was not as severe as it could have been.

Recent call reports reflect small town events and activity. Barking dogs, several loud music complaints and one overly loud party, domestic violence, civil matters, a stranded motorist, a gas drive-off and traffic citations and warnings were all included in the week's reports. The gas drive-off call was cancelled when the guilty party realized that payment had been forgotten and returned and corrected the matter. Officers were also called out to break up a fight, but were unable to locate anyone involved.

DeLeon Police assisted the Texas Highway Patrol in a DWI arrest, and assisted Gorman PD with their K-9 officer at a traffic stop where a small amount of marijuana was located. Two skunks were also shot by DeLeon officers.

Chief Dickey says that he is awaiting the medical examiner's final report on the recent death of Victor Gonzales to know whether and how to proceed with possible charges regarding inflicted injuries that are believed to have been a contributing factor.
