Corps of Engineers officials report
that all boat ramps in their parks have been closed due to high
water levels, which surpassed the 1167 mark on Tuesday, June 5.
Boating activity has not been banned, however, as some remain on
the lake. Boaters are urged to be very cautious as much debris has
come into the lake from rain swollen streams.
The Corps of Engineers’ parks on
Proctor Lake remain open, although some of the lower campsites are
now flooded and closed.
Corps officials report that they are
forced to retain water into their flood pool because of high water
conditions at lakes downstream. The high water levels are
predicted to remain for at least 2-3 weeks, perhaps longer if
rainfalls continue in the area. |

TRACTOR ROLLOVER FATALITY. Joe Powers, a resident on CR 429
near Beattie, was working on the spillway of a large stock pond
late Monday afternoon, June 4, when he apparently drove his
tractor onto the narrow dam and the tractor skidded sideways,
rolled over and crushed him to death. His wife, Margie, called his
brother, Wayne, when he did not come home and they found this grim
scene after dark. Powers had reportedly only very recently retired
from his job at the Texas Department of Transportation. As this
photo was taken, law enforcement officers were awaiting the
arrival of Justice of the Peace Bill Koenig, who later pronounced
him deceased. The tractor to the left then was used to free the
body. |
