The DeLeon ISD Board of Trustees met for
a brief regular monthly meeting on May 15, 2007.
The agenda included all matters related
to the May 12 election, however all of those matters were held due to
having to wait for provisional ballots to be certified and counted.
Those final results were not available for the Board to take action on
the election, and a special meeting was scheduled for Monday, May 21
at the district central office for the sole purpose of canvassing the
election results. >>Full Report<< |

Mary Katherine Dickey, valedictorian for
the DHS class of 2007, is a good example of someone whose parents have
the “roots and wings” things down right. She states simply that her
father, Dr. Howard Dickey, is her “idol and hero” and that her mother,
Kelly Dickey, is her “best friend” and that the thought of leaving
them to attend the University of Texas is somewhat daunting. But at
the same time, she knows she will leave, and more importantly, that
she’ll survive, and so will her parents. And that eventually, when
she’s living her dream to participate in “Doctors Without Borders,”
she’ll be able to draw on the strength of character instilled in her
by her parents and small town upbringing.
“I can’t imagine having any other
parents,” Mary Katherine said, “they’ve been so wonderful to me. I’m
going to miss them so much...but it will be a good thing for me to get
out and do something on my own, and knowing they support me will
help.” >>Full Report<< |

Kelsey Menzel, the 18 year old daughter
of David and Vivian Menzel, and salutatorian for the DHS class of
2007, refuses to let an April automobile accident define her senior
year.
“It’s no big deal,” she said, when asked
about her injuries. And although she’s used a wheelchair and crutches,
and participated in the Home Bound educational program for the last
several weeks of her senior year, you get the feeling she means it.
“I’m doing fine,” Kelsey said, “it’s
really not that bad. It was unfortunate, but I’m going to make a
complete recovery.” She added that the support of her family and
friends have helped during these last few weeks, especially that of
her parents. >>Full Report<< |

Where did all these mosquitoes come from?
Let’s first discuss mosquito biology.
There are around 54 species of mosquitoes that occur in Texas, and all
require water for the larvae and pupae (immature stages) to develop.
Each species requires specific environmental conditions to complete
its life cycle, however, they can be generally placed into one of
three broad groups:
1. Standing water mosquitoes
2. Floodwater mosquitoes
3. Tree hole mosquitoes
