When the final votes were tallied,
DeLeon’s $8 million dollar school bond proposition was defeated, May
12, with 54 percent of the voters casting ballots against the measure
and 46 percent in favor.
Supporters of the bond proposal were
visibly disappointed when the results were posted on the City Hall
door at 10 p.m. Saturday night, while two people who obviously did not
support it, cheered.
In the City Council Place 3 race, Benny
Morris received 287 votes, defeating Fred Turner, with 37 votes, and
Marion Quade, with 32.
The City Council Place 4 race resulted in
an upset for the incumbent, Avery Carlise, who was defeated 202 to
131, by Roy Dale Freeman.
Gayle Stroud ran unopposed for the City
Council Place 5 spot, and received 277 votes.
The three spots on the DISD School Board
went to Kelly Dickey, with 436 votes; Becky Golden, with 412 votes,
and Brad Sanders, with 396. Candidate Laura Brown received 366 votes
and Dwight Dold received 227 votes.
The race for the Comanche County
Consolidated Hospital District Board resulted in Janna Morris winning
the Place 1 seat, with 735 votes, more than her two opponents
combined, while Marvin McKinnon garnered 374 votes, and Gayland
Daugherty 327.
Karen Carr, the incumbent, defeated Dr.
Beau McCrory, 953 to 477, for the Place 2 seat.
Gale Easley, running unopposed for Place
3, received 1,172 votes, while Joe Locke, running unopposed for Place
4, received 1, 126 votes. Charles Mazurek, running unopposed for Place
5, received 1,103 votes.
Cedric Bettis was defeated by Billy Ray
Evans for the Place 6 seat, by a total of 868 to 600.
The State Constitutional Amendment passed
locally 167 to 36, and the 1/4 Sales Tax Reauthorization passed by 87
percent, with 303 votes for, and 45 against.
A called meeting has been announced for 6
p.m. Friday, May 18, in the Council room at the City Hall to canvas
city election results. |
