VAN DYKE -- The Board of Directors of the Comanche County Medical Center met for the second time in a week on Friday, April 27, and after a relatively brief closed door, executive session, voted unanimously on a motion offered by Gale Easley, seconded by Karen Carr, to offer a contract of employment to Kevin Storey as the hospital's new Chief Executive Officer.  >>Full Story<<


This is the seventh week of questions that have been asked about the school bond issue being addressed by Dr. Randy Mohundro, DeLeon ISD Superintendent.

The following questions were raised at the Community Information Meeting held on April 26.

“How certain are the state funds that will help pay for the bond debt?  I understand that the Early ISD has been waiting for some time on receipt of state funds for their planned school improvements, and perhaps other ISD’s in the area are as well.”  >>Dr. Mohundro's Reply<<

The DeLeon City Council met in regular session Thursday, April 26, 2007, with all members present, and heard two citizens, with differing opinions speak on the same subject -- a recent musical event (described as a Spanish dance) at the Peach and Melon Festival grounds.  >>Full Story<<

A gallon can of peaches opened and served at the DeLeon Elementary cafeteria for lunch last Thursday, April 26, was the prime suspect on Friday as the cause of a student who became ill and was later taken to Comanche County Medical Center with food poisoning suspected. Numerous other elementary students missed school with illness on Friday, as well, some of whom who had also been absent on Thursday when the suspect peaches were served.   >>Full Story<<

The Women's Division Candidates Forum was held at DeLeon's City Hall last Friday evening, April 27.

The ladies hosting the forum reported having difficulty finding a night that did not conflict with other community events, and the turnout of both candidates and audience was limited by the Comanche County Relay for Life event being held at the same time. LaJoyce Johnson admitted to some unease in her first experience as moderator for the forum, although she did a commendable job.

Candidates were allowed three minutes to make a presentation, and questions from the audience were not allowed. Ruby Park served as the timekeeper. Other members of the Women's Division were on hand to help dispense coffee and cookies before and following the forum. >>Full Story<<
