COMANCHE -- The tradition of unanimous voting on all matters great and small fell by the wayside at the latest Commissioners Court meeting.

New Commissioners Jimmy Dale Johnson and Kenneth Feist exhibited their independent thinking on two separate issues as they voted against a longer tenured Commissioner and the recommendations of other county officials.  >>Full Story<<

The following is the fourth in a series of questions being presented about the upcoming DeLeon ISD bond issue that will be on the May 12 ballot. The response for the questions are provided by Dr. Randy Mohundro, Superintendent of Schools for DISD.

Question - “DeLeon's economy has been suffering in recent years with the loss of the peanut growing and all.  A large portion of our residents are retirees on a very limited income.  How can we possibly afford the new schools?”  >>Dr. Mohundro's reply<<

The DeLeon City Council met in a called session, Tuesday, April 3, and addressed a single agenda item: possible disciplinary action against DeLeon Police officer Waverly Inman.

Inman, 28, was arrested March 4, by members of the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office, following a call from the DeLeon PD to assist in an investigation of its own.

Following the sheriff’s investigation, Inman was charged with “assault causes bodily injury, family member.”

After an almost two hour meeting City Council members voted to change Inman’s status to “reserve officer, emergency only” according to DeLeon City Secretary Karen Wilkerson.

Council members also voted to allow Wilkerson to begin advertising for a new officer immediately.

SNOW-COVERED BLUEBONNETS.  The strange weather conditions Saturday, April 7, left much of North and Central Texas, including DeLeon, covered in a beautiful blanket of white snow.  These snow-covered bluebonnets, in a yard on the south end of DeLeon, were an amazing sight, as were the many snow-covered trees, shrubs, cars, houses…well, you get the picture.  Area residents, young and old alike, were overheard stating, "I've never seen anything like it."
