As of press time, Tuesday, March 6, there
had been no filings for the DeLeon City Council elections. Four
incumbents had filed for places on the Comanche County Medical Center
board: Karen Carr, Place 2; Gale Easley, Place 3; Joe Locke, Place 4,
and Charles Mazurek, Place 5. Mary Jane Atkins, Place 1, recently
announced her decision not to seek re-election, and John Mack Weaver,
Place 6, had not filed for re-election as of press time.
The two-year City Council terms set to
expire include those of Johnnye Howell, place 3; Avery Carlisle, place
4; and John Holdridge, place 5.
As was mentioned last week, Brad Sanders
has filed to run for DISD board of trustees. Both Kelly Dickey and
Becky Golden have filed for re-election. Janet McGinnis’ term also
expires, but there has been no word as yet whether she will seek
re-election. The three DISD candidates receiving the most votes will
be elected.
The filing deadline for the city,
hospital and school elections is Monday, March 12 at 5 p.m. The
election is scheduled for May 12.

VAN DYKE -- Progress was reported on a
variety of areas, including financial, at the regular monthly meeting
of the Board of Directors of the Comanche County Consolidated Hospital
District on Tuesday, February 27.
All six Board members were present,
including Board president Charles Mazurek, and members Gale Easley,
John Mack Weaver, Karen Carr, Joe Locke and Mary Jane Atkins. >>Full Story<< |

Joe Cooper, general manager for the the
Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, announced the
resignation of director Boyd Waggoner during the district’s most
recent board meeting, Thursday, March 1.
Cooper said that his office had received
a hand-delivered letter on Wednesday afternoon, at 4 p.m., announcing
the resignation, and that the item would be addressed at the next

Macee Kay Steigleder, seems like your
typical cowgirl -- all decked out in jeans, boots, and a huge belt
buckle that she earned as a barrel racer. She handles her 1,200 pound
horse with ease and travels to shows and rodeos across the state on a
regular basis. But in her down-time she sometimes enjoys playing with
toy ponies and jumping on the trampoline.
“She just turned five in November,” said
her mother, Shannon, “And she’s been riding since she was two.”
