DeLeon residents and Chamber of Commerce representatives Barbara Helberg, Judy Sadberry, Marlene Cox and Karen Wilkerson traveled to Austin last Wednesday, February 14, along with residents of Comanche, for Comanche County Day at the State Capitol.

State Representative Sid Miller welcomed DeLeon residents Judy Sadberry, Marlene Cox and Barbara Helberg to his State Capitol office last week as part of an observation of "Comanche County Day" in Austin. Also present, but not pictured, was Karen Wilkerson

Paying a visit to State Representative Sid Miller, District 59, was one of the highlights of the day. Following is the complete text of House Resolution 384 which Miller authored and presented in honor of Comanche County:

“Whereas, the House of Representatives of the State of Texas is pleased to welcome citizens of Comanche County and to recognize February 14, 2007, as Comanche County Day at the State Capitol; and

Whereas, Created in 1856 from Bosque and Coreyll Counties, Comanche County was named for the Comanche Indians who once dominated the Southwest Plains; and

Whereas, Ideally situated in the hills of Central Texas, Comanche County enjoys scenic vistas and fertile soil, and the county takes great pride in its many historical treasures and beautiful Lake Proctor; and

Whereas, the county seat of Comanche is a nationally accredited Main Street City; it is home to “Old Cora,” one of the oldest original existing courthouses in Texas, and the 26th annual Comanche Pow-Wow; DeLeon is the home of the annual Peach and Melon Festival,

Whereas, Citizens of Comanche County are friendly and work diligently for the betterment of their county and its communities, and they have much to be proud of; the county has played an important role in the history of Texas, and with its civic-minded residents and a healthy economy, it is truly an asset to our state; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby recognizes February 14, 2007, as Comanche County Day at the State Capitol and joins residents in their celebration of this occasion.”
