CAR HITS RAILROAD DEPOT
BUILDING.
This unusual accident last
Wednesday afternoon, February 14, resulted from an accelerator
stuck on full as Truman and Jean Childress traveled north on
Austin Street. The vehicle skidded sideways from Austin Street
where it deadended into LaSalle, hopped over the concrete ramp and
crashed into the end of the old depot building building. Jean
Childress suffered broken bones and was transported to Comanche
County Medical Center and hospitalized. Truman, who was driving,
was reported not to have suffered serious injuries. |

WILDFIRE NEAR DESDEMONA.
A large and dangerous
coastal bermuda grass pasture fire sprang up mid-afternoon on
Monday, apparently the result of workers using a cutting torch
while hanging gates at a newly constructed cattle pen, shown in
the above photo. DeLeon volunteer firemen were just getting
started on fighting the fire, and quickly called for
reinforcements as the southerly wind threatened to spread the fire
beyond the pasture. Fire fighters from Gorman, Desdemona,
Lingleville and Dublin, as well as from DeLeon soon arrived and
controlled the blaze before it spread and caused further damage.
The property, owned by Roy Johnson, is located just north of the
intersection of Highways 16 and 2156. |
