An urgent call to 9-1-1 around 2:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon, February 12, described a gunshot wound victim in need of medical attention. There was some initial confusion on the address, however, police and ambulance soon located a seriously wounded man at 532 West Hampton Street in DeLeon.

THE GUN USED IN THE SHOOTING. This German made .357 revolver with a single .38 Special fired round was recovered at the scene of the shooting. DeLeon Police Chief Ralph Dickey showed the pistol.

Ivan Razo, 16, said to have been from Fort Worth, was transported to Comanche County Medical Center suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head and neck. He was reported to have been flown to a hospital in Fort Worth where word of his condition, believed to be grave, was unavailable at press time.

An account of the shooting given by his girlfriend, Elizabeth Motalara, 15, also said to be from Fort Worth, indicated that Razo had emptied the bullets from a .357 revolver he possessed and was trying to impress Motalara not to leave him and return to Fort Worth.

The couple were staying with friends in DeLeon.

Razo was said to have put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger twice, before laying back on a bed while laughing and then pulling the trigger a third time, causing the gun to discharge, wounding his head and neck.

DeLeon Police found two live .38 special bullets in the room where the shooting occurred, in addition to a .357 revolver with a fired bullet in the chamber.

Tests for gunshot residue on the shooting victim’s hand indicated positive results.

DeLeon Police Chief Ralph Dickey stated on Tuesday that the shooting remains under investigation.
