On Friday evening, January 26, at
around 9:00 p.m., Comanche County Dispatch received a 9-1-1 hangup
call from the DeLeon Inn.
Officer Ben Rowell was dispatched to
the scene for investigation and Corporal Robert Kluge soon arrived
as backup.
After knocking on doors at the Inn,
the officers located a room where Laura Beth Burnett, 25, was
suffering from knife wounds.
Burnett was transported by ambulance
to Comanche County Medical Center and was reported to have been
hospitalized there while recuperating from six stab and knife
wounds.
Police arrested Geraldo Garza, 31,
who was also in the motel room, and charged him with possession of
a controlled substance, under one gram, and of marijuana, under
two ounces.
Police also recovered a knife that is
believed to have been used in the stabbing.
Garza was later charged with
aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily
harm. He currently is incarcerated in Comanche County Jail subject
to bond requirements of $20,000.
The matter remains under
investigation and additional charges may be filed. |
