DEFENSE TEAM WORK.  Several of the Bearcat defensive team, including Pedro Calzada, Kevin Smith, Josh Carruth and Gary McLearen, look to break through the Muenster lead blockers to tackle the running back.

The Bearcats traveled to Pennington Field in Bedford to play their first playoff game in years against Muenster this past Friday night.

Although DeLeon was outsized by Muenster, the Bearcats held their own and had several chances to change the outcome of the game.

The Bearcats received the game’s opening kick off and drove the ball down to the Muenster one yard line before turning the ball over on a phantom fumble.

Gustavo Calzada was handed the ball and was stopped on the one yard line. The play looked to be over when the ball rolled into the end-zone.

The Muenster secondary thought the play was over for a second and then quickly pounced on the ball.

When the officials came together to discuss the play, not one of them knew when the Bearcat back lost the ball and decided to rule the play a fumble and give Muenster the ball on the 20-yard line.

Muenster would go on to score two touchdowns before the half and take a 0-13 lead over the Bearcats into the locker room.

The third quarter started off in the Bearcat’s favor when Muenster fumbled the ball over to DeLeon on their first possession of the second half deep in their own territory.

With a chance to gain some momentum, the Bearcats moved the ball down to the Muenster one yard line, but were unable to score on four consecutive plays.

After their amazing defensive stand, Muenster was able to take their 0-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

After another Muenster turnover, the Bearcats were finally able to score on a half-back pass from L.C. Cisneroz to Kevin Smith from 26-yards out.

On the play, Cisneroz rolled to the right in search of a receiver, but was unable to find one. He immediately reversed directions and headed to the opposite end of the field when he spotted and completed the 26 yard touchdown pass to Smith to bring the score to 7-13.

With momentum on their side, the Beacats hoped to make a defensive stand and get the ball back to their offense, but Muenster would not allow the Bearcats to maintain their momentum for long.

On their next possession, Muenster drove the length of the field on the Bearcats in only three plays to take control of the game and increase their lead to 7-21.

M.J. Stewart would find a way into the end-zone later in the game, but it would be too little to late as Muenster would end the game and the Bearcat season by a final score of 13-36.

The Bearcats finish the season with a 5-6 overall record and a second place district finish. They are also the first Bearcat team to make the playoffs in five years.
