The DeLeon City Council met in regular session with all members present except Howard Gifford.

Replacing Nikki, the DeLeon Police Department’s K-9 officer, was addressed first.

“About a week ago, Nikki had a very violent seizure in the back seat of my patrol car,” Kluge said, “and had to be rushed to Conway’s Vet Clinic in Comanche. He kept her over the weekend and did a bunch of blood work on her and found out her liver is damaged.”  >>Full Story<<

Texas Hold 'Em has taken on an entirely new meaning. Instead of trying Lady Luck at a gaming table or Lotto scratch off, Texans have billions of dollars in unclaimed, forgotten properties held in trust for them by the Texas Comptroller. For De Leon residents and businesses, the amount is exactly $47,341.17 that just awaits claiming by the property owners or their heirs.  >>Full Story<<

DHS FALL FESTIVAL ROYALTY. DHS juniors Mitch Barefoot and Emily Auvenshine were named King and Queen of the DHS Fall Festival, Saturday, October 28.

MULTPLE WRECKS CAUSED BY A ROVING COW. Having just used the Jaws of Life to bend back the jammed door on a car last Friday evening, October 27, DeLeon volunteer firemen and CCMC EMS personnel prepare to remove Cindy Rawls of DeLeon and transport her to the CCMC emergency room. According to family members, Rawls suffered no broken bones, but was badly bruised. Her northbound Chevrolet Cavalier struck a black Brangus cow and was then rear-ended by a Dodge dually pickup driven by Billy Russell, also of DeLeon. The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the cow wandered onto Highway 16, about a mile south of DeLeon at the CR 447 intersection. After being hit by Rawls' vehicle, the cow ended up in the southbound lane and was struck by two southbound vehicles, a GMC truck driven by Clara Martinez of DeLeon and a Dodge truck driven by Clint Davidson from Coppell. The cow was killed, but no other drivers were injured. All four vehicles had to be towed. The owner of the cow was not reported.
