Their days of picking cotton, shaking
peanuts and playing “Annie Over” are long gone, but three area sisters
-- Elsie Robinett, Marie White and Bernice Farley -- feel blessed to
have the memories of their early life in the Rock Bluff community.
Elsie, Marie and Bernice are the three
surviving children of the 10 children -- five boys and five girls --
born to Henry Franklin Clements Skaggs and Lizzie Lee Browning Skaggs.
Their siblings were Virgil, Mae, Cleo, Vernon, Archie, Lloyd and

TRAIN
ROBBERY! One of four train robbers, all part of the notorious
Rucker Gang, is seen in the process of collecting valuables from
the passengers on the Doodle Bug Excursion Train last Saturday
afternoon. The train was flagged to a stop in the Rucker area and
the thieves, one covertly situated in each train car, went to
work. Deputy U.S. Marshall Joe ³Long Arm² Williams just happened
to be indisposed at the time of the robbery, however, he did
manage to fire a few shots as the robbers fled on horseback. More
than 300 visited DeLeon during the noon hour on Saturday as the
Doodle Bug made its annual run from Dublin to DeLeon and Gorman.
The DHS Band greeted the train¹s arrival and hay ride trailers
transported the many visitors to various spots around downtown.
Many joined the sandwich luncheon at City Hall and enjoyed the
skits performed by the DeLeon Theater Troupe. |
