The DeLeon City Council met Monday, September 25, 2006 for a budget workshop and to approve the proposed budget. Mayor pro tem Howard Gifford was absent, as was Councilman Avery Carlisle.

Results of previous budget workshops, as well as Monday’s discussion, ultimately resulted in a small increase in water rates and taxes, as well as budget cuts in many departments. It has been noted several times by City officials that having to budget for a loan to finish the Community Festival Gardens Park project has made things especially difficult this year.   >>Full Story<<

COMANCHE -- Courthouse restoration grants, fuel supply bids, the Leon River cleanup, 9-1-1 and GPS addressing, and the appointment of a County Fire Marshall were among the more significant topics covered at the Monday, September 25 meeting of the Commissioners Court. All active members were present.

DUBLIN -- A new slate of officers were elected in a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District held on Thursday, September 21.

The special meeting had been called for the purpose of removing the Board’s officers and electing replacements.

The meeting room at Dublin City Hall was packed with citizens, most of whom were apparently in support of Waggoner.  >>Full Story<<


The Bearcats traveled to Dublin this past Friday night where they tried to spoil the Lion’s Homecoming.

The Bearcats showed flashes of brilliance in the second quarter, but were unable to stop a Dublin offense that was able to pile up nearly 400 yards of total offense.

MARKER DEDICATION CEREMONY. The unveiling and dedication of a granite monument honoring veterans of the War Between the States buried at Zion Hill Cemetery (one of the oldest burial sites in Comanche County) took place Sunday, September 24. Following the completion of the dedication ceremony, the 19 men who participated in the honor guard, including an officer, drummer and bugler, surrounded the monument for photos. They were associated with Company A of the Waco Guards of the 7th Texas Infantry Living History Unit.
