SACKING THE QUARTERBACK.  Tyler Gardner is pictured here with another Bearcat as they sack the Hico quarterback after a fumbled snap.

The Bearcats traveled to Cisco this past Saturday to play the Hico Tigers for the second game of the Chelsey Field Fall Classic.

Hico took an early 0-7 lead over the Bearcats before a 45-yard reception in the second quarter by Gary McClearen put the Bearcats in the Hico red-zone. Several plays later, M.J. Stewart punched the ball over the goal line from one yard out to tie the game at 7-7.

Later in the game, with less than two minutes left in the half, Hico scored on a 20-yard pass in the corner of the end-zone to take a 7-14 lead over the Bearcats.

On DeLeon’s next possession, Jeremy Lindley tried to hit Vince Flores on a long pass, but the Hico defender was able to make the interception and give Hico a first and ten near mid-field.

Hico immediately went to the air and attempted a long pass of their own that was completed, but Jeremy Lindley punched the ball from the receivers grasp, and the Bearcats were able to recover the fumble on their own 10-yard line.

With only 25 seconds left on the clock and Hico having no time-outs, the Bearcats were hoping to run out the clock and head into the locker room only down by seven points.

But, fate was not on the Bearcats side as on the very first play the Bearcats fumbled the ball on a dive play and Hico recovered on the Bearcats 12-yard line with 18 seconds left on the clock.

The very next play, Hico completed another pass in the end-zone and went into the half with a 7-21 lead.

Hico would go on to score the next two touchdowns as they continued to control the game during the second half of play.

The Bearcats would score again in the second half and finish the game with a 14-40 loss to the Hico Tigers.

This week, DeLeon will be celebrating Homecoming as the Bearcats will play host to the Meridian Yellowjackets.

Meridian has five offensive and seven defensive starters from last years 6-4 team. They are also picked to finish fourth in their district behind Goldthwaite, Valley Mills and Bosqueville.

Meridian has started off the season on the right foot as they come into the game against the Bearcats with a 2-0 record after defeating Granger 31-20 and Dawson 30-0.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. following the Homecoming festivities.
