The Texas Education Agency recently
released the 2006 school accountability ratings -- based in part on
the most recent Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) scores
-- and the DeLeon Independent School District received an
“academically acceptable” rating.
Individually, DeLeon High School and
Perkins Middle School also received academically acceptable ratings,
while DeLeon elementary received a “recognized” rating. >>Full Story<< |

The weather statistics tell us what
everyone already knows -- a severe drought has the area in a
stranglehold, and isn’t letting up on its grip.
Rainfall statistics gathered by the Corps
of Engineers at its Proctor Lake weather station show that only 20.72
inches have been received in the 12 months ending in July.
The long-term average annual rainfall for
the area is slightly above 31 inches. >>Full Story<< |

The DeLeon ISD Board of Trustees met on
August 7 for what will be the first of two meetings for the month. The
Board’s focus for this meeting was a review and discussion of the
2006-2007 budget.
Following approval of the consent agenda
for the month of August, the Board was then given a presentation by
Dr. Randy Mohundro, Superintendent, of various aspects of the budget. >>Full Story<< |

The Festival Gardens Park, Community
Garden Park, Fair Grounds Complex, or whatever you call it -- many
people have talked about it, dreamed about it and, more recently,
watched it start to take shape out on Hwy 6 east of town.
This particular park project, (one of
many efforts through the years) began with former Mayor John Adcock
