The newest DeLeon City Council members were sworn-in during a regularly scheduled meeting, Thursday, May 25, 2006, before a relatively large group of spectators.

Due to the size of the crowd (most there to watch a friend or family member being sworn in) the meeting was conducted in the City Hall auditorium, instead of City Council chambers. Johnnye Howell was the only council member absent.

Thirty-seven new graduates of DeLeon High School were honored in elaborate ceremonies before a large crowd at the High School Gymnasium on Friday evening, May 26.

DISD’s new Superintendent, Dr. Randy Mohundro, made his mark on the ceremonies is several ways. The entire school system faculty, from Elementary to High School, all followed the procession of new graduates into the gymnasium, all wearing the caps, hoods and gowns representing their degrees earned in higher education.

The normally placid little community of Victor, near the northern Comanche and Erath County line, was teeming with activity this past week as more than 30 people showed up to learn the art of “grave dowsing.”

CONCRETE AT THE CITY PARK. DeLeon’s new mayor, Danny Owen, along with DeLeon’s most recent former mayor, Jim Adams, the assistant city secretary, Jamie Welch, and Scott Hively, the contractor, were all on hand as the first batch of concrete was poured at the new Festival Park Grounds. This eagerly anticipated moment took on a celebratory mood as Owen congratulated Adams on overseeing the park progress so far, and Adams wished Owen well with the rest of the project.
