Comanche – A short-handed Commissioners Court decided to drop any further investigation of the replacement of a washed out bridge on the upper reaches of Nabors Lake when they were advised of preliminary cost estimates. The Court also heard an auditor’s report of financial condition and wrestled with employee overtime pay issues in a meeting that was dominated by financial matters. >>Full Story<<

Doyle Rone was elected as DeLeon’s new Fire Chief, Monday, May 22, in a meeting of the DeLeon Volunteer Fire Department.

Clyde Brinson, who served as DeLeon Fire Chief for 14 years, passed away May 11.

Rone, a DeLeon native and VFD member since 1992, has served as the department’s training officer and safety officer for a number of years.

The annual De Leon Volunteer Fire Department barbeque, scheduled for Saturday, June 10, at City Hall, will be a benefit for the Clyde Brinson family.

Students who have maintained an “A” average in the school year were honored at a banquet on Monday evening.

Thirteen seniors honored included Joseph Cisneroz, Kia McCarty, Elizabeth Nabors and Michael Prather, all of whom has been so honored in each year they were in high school, and Megan Nabors, Zach Paul, and Striker Spencer. Dayla Barker, Veronica Barron, Andrew Cokenour, Dewayne Gomez, Vicotria Gomez and Angelica Villanueva were also honored but not present.

Thirteen juniors honored were Jennifer Bertrang, Cameron Canterbury, Flor Maria Crenshaw, Mary Katherine Dickey, Monica Gonzales, Lyndi Levisay, Kelsey Menzel, Delia Moreno, Marisa Vargas and L.C. Williams. Isacc Garcia, Anabel Hernandez and Jessica Moreno were also honored but not present.

Twenty sophomores were honored including Krista Escamilla, Emily Auvenshine, Mitch Barefoot, Josh Beaty, Ashley Davis, Bonnie Gilder (not pictured), Kristian Goertz, Brody Hammonds, Veda Holland, Elizabeth Lewis, Whitney McDonald, Kristen Powell, Christen Ranson, Jennifer Sims, Brianna Strube, Susan Travis, Selina Walker, Raymond Watson, Cody Welch and Madison Wilkerson.

Freshmen honorees included Latisha Abbey, C.J. Grumbles (not pictured), Meagan Holder, Scott Jordan, Tyler McKinney, Matt Nowlin, Trevor Nowlin, Chance Singleton, Maci Williams and Michelle Williams.


Commencement '06 will be Friday, May 26th, 7:00 p.m.
