Michael Prather, the 17 year
old son of Toney and Terrie Prather, is DHS salutatorian for 2006,
with a grade point average of 95.30.

Michael’s immediate plans
include attending Texas A&M University and “joining the Corps of
Cadets.”
“And also, I’m going to be
playing drums in the Fighting Texas Aggie Band,” he said. “Ever since
I can remember, I wanted to go to Texas A&M. I plan to get a degree
in Mechanical Engineering. I’d like to work for a major auto
manufacturer. Really, my goal in life is to design or fabricate an
engine that runs off perpetual motion, instead of any type of fuel.”
Both drums and automotive
engines captured Michael’s attention years ago.
“I’ve played the drums for
six years,” he said. He also played drums for the DHS Mighty Maroon
Band.
“And I like working on
engines,” he added. “I’ve got an engine out in the shop that I’m
building now.”
Michael believes he’ll have
fond memories of high school, but maybe fewer than his classmates.
“I skipped my junior year,”
Michael said, “so I didn’t really have the full high school
experience. But that’s alright because I don’t like to look to the
past, I like to look to the future.”
When the subject of a
favorite teacher comes up, Michael doesn’t have to consider the
question for long.
“Mr. Miller, the band
director. If there’s something I need to talk about, he’s there,” he
said. Michael, who has a well-developed sense of humor,
enjoys watching situation comedies on television.
“I catch about every episode
of The Office,” he said, “and I watch The Simpsons and The Family
Guy. And I watch pretty much any type of stand-up comic that comes
on Comedy Central. I really like Dane Cook.”
Since Michael skipped a year,
many of the students he started school with are still juniors, but
they’ve remained close. “Corey Vaughn is a good friend of mine, and
my girlfriend Monica Gonzales is still a junior.”
Michael is a member of First
Baptist Church.
His high school activities
included FCA, Band and National Honor Society.
“I
would like to thank everyone for encouraging me along the way,”
Michael said. |
