The Bearcat’s baseball team entered the last two games of district play just one victory away from a birth into the 2AA baseball playoffs. Their losses to both Dublin and Eastland pushed the Bearcats out of playoff contention and ended DeLeon’s up and down season.

On Tuesday, April 25, the Bearcats traveled to Dublin to face of with the Dublin Lions. A win by the Bearcats would eliminate the Lions and place the Bearcats in the running for a second place finish with Cisco.

DeLeon was the first team to score by pushing one run across in the top of the first inning.

Dublin would answer in the bottom of the second and take the lead after scoring two runs in the inning.

Dublin would extend their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring six runs before the Bearcats could get the third out.

DeLeon would finish the game scoring one more run, but it was not enough as the final of the game was 2-9.

With the loss to Dublin and Dublin’s victory over Hico and Cisco’s loss to Hamilton, the Bearcats would traveled to Eastland this past Monday to play the Mavericks in a must win game for the Bearcats.

Winning the game would place the Bearcats in a three way tie with Dublin and Cisco for the second place position in the district.

They would then play Dublin on Tuesday in Mineral Wells and then the winner would play Cisco for second.

If the Bearcats lost the game, they would be eliminated from the play off picture all together.

Unfortunately, the Mavericks defeated the Bearcats by a 3-13 score in six innings of play.

The loss finished the Bearcat season with a 5-5 district record, a 10-9 record for the season and a fourth place finish in the district.

The Bearcats will drop from 2A to 1A next season.

Their district will consist of Albany, Eula, Cross Plains, Ranger and Gorman.
