COMANCHE – The County courtroom was packed with many DeLeon area residents and property owners on Wednesday, April 26, to witness, and in some cases to testify, in the Jury of View deliberations concerning county roads 462 and 459.

At the conclusion of the almost three hour proceedings, the protestors were disappointed when the Jury of View ruled that the two roads were indeed county maintained roads.  >>Full Story<<

The U.S. Postal Service issued a rule in January which takes effect on May 11 that will affect all periodicals mailers, newspapers included, and will have the effect of delaying the delivery of many newspapers.

The new rule requires that mail sacks contain a minimum of 24 newspapers. Prior to May 11, mail sacks could contain as few as six newspapers. This week’s mailing will be the last under the old rule.  >>Full Story<<

DeLeon Police Chief Gary Morphew announced Thursday night, during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Thursday, April 27, his intention to retire, effective immediately.

The announcement came immediately following a more than two hour executive session by the council.

Duanne Fuquay, an Investigator for the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office, reported recently that cattle thieves are active again in Comanche County.

“I’m working one case that involves the far northwestern corner of the county,” Fuquay said, “and then I’ve got other cases that involve the southwestern part of the county. There was a lady who went to feed her cows, last week, who found five of them penned-up. I imagine someone planned to come back for them.”  >>Full Story<<

The Bearcat’s baseball team entered the last two games of district play just one victory away from a birth into the 2AA baseball playoffs. Their losses to both Dublin and Eastland pushed the Bearcats out of playoff contention and ended DeLeon’s up and down season.  >>Full Story<<

 

NEW SIDEWALK LIGHTS DOWNTOWN. The replacement of DeLeon’s sidewalks downtown is progressing rapidly. Here we see one of several new old-time styled sidewalk lamps that have recently been installed on the new sidewalks. Others are visible down the street.

LIGHTNING STRIKE. This giant oak tree, in the front yard of Elsie Robinett on the Sipe Springs Highway, was struck by lightning Friday afternoon. Robinett said she heard the lightning strike and got to her window in time to see it split
