The Cisco Loboes came to DeLeon this past
Monday and defeated the Bearcats 2-5 in a very big district ball game.
If the Bearcats had won, they were almost guaranteed a playoff
position, but the loss placed four teams fighting for three playoff
positions.
Cisco started the scoring by pushing a
runner across the plate in the first inning and took a 0-1 lead after
one complete inning of play.
In the second inning, the Bearcats were
able to capture the lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the
second. DeLeon was not able to hold the lead for long as the Loboes
answered with two runs in the top of the third to recapture the lead
that they would not relinquish.
Cisco would later score two more runs in
the top of the sixth while the Bearcats consistently put people on
base but were unable to score any more runs after the second inning.
"Overall Cisco just executed and were
able to drive in runners when they got on base," said Coach Mark
Adams, "We didn't do a bad job hitting overall, just a bad job hitting
with runners on base. We weren't able to move runners and put pressure
on the defense like we normally do, but when you play six good games
to begin the district you might run into a game like we played against
Cisco."
"We have three games left against good
teams, and all we have to do is play our game and we'll be in good
shape. I have complete confidence in these young men," added Coach
Adams.
L.C. Williams pitched all seven inning
for the Bearcats while Glen Morgan and Kia McCarty had good games from
defensively for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats will travel to Hamilton on
Friday to play the first place Bulldogs. With a defeat of Hamilton,
the Bearcats will be able to pull into a tie for first place. A loss
would put the Bearcats in a possible three way tie with Dublin and
Cisco. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. in Hamilton.
