In
what looks more like a football score than a baseball score, the
Bearcats were able to outscore Hico 19-12 this past Friday night in
the gusting wind. The game was not only a marathon in score, but also
in time as it lasted a painful 3.5 hours.
Both defenses really struggled against extremely strong winds that
caused the fielders all kinds of difficulties in catching the ball
while in flight.
Offensively, the Bearcats hit the ball very well as Kevin Smith had
three hits with four runs batted in, Ryan Newton had three hits with a
double and reached base all five times at bat, Joe Vitalec scored five
times and recorded two stolen bases, Gustavo Chavarria and Kia McCarty
both had home runs and L.C. Williams had a legitimate in the park home
run.
Chavarria was the winning pitcher while McCarty and Williams had two
innings each in relief.
"I think we hit the ball extremly well, and ran the bases well," said
Coach Mark Adams, "Defensively we just walked too many hitters (11). I
credit our pitching weakness to the game conditions. It's tough to
throw with heavy wind and blowing dirt, but we got the win and that is
what counts!" The Bearcats have three district ball games left. They
will play in DeLeon against Dublin and will travel to Hamilton and
Eastland to finish off the season. At this point and time, they are in
second place in district. |
